There’s something you should know about me. I love Oprah. I love, love, love her. I understand not everyone loves Oprah and if you don’t happen to love her (??) we can still be friends, just don’t knock her in my presence, k? Once upon a time, I was a 6th grader at Leawood Middle School back in Leawood, KS (yea Kansas!) and we had a year-long reading contest where we earned monopoly money for every book we read. Throughout the year students wrote letters to our favorite stars asking them to donate items to our auction and on the last day of school we used our monopoly money to bid on the items. Guess who I wrote and asked for a donation. Oprah. Duh. And to Oprah’s credit she sent back an autographed head shot for our little auction. I read and read and read all year long (totally ahead of the curve on Oprah’s Book Club!) because I was absolutely determined to earn enough money to buy that picture. And guess what? I did! And guess what else? I still have it! 20+ years later and I still have the picture. Why am I telling you all this, you ask? What does this have to do with turkey burgers, you’re wondering?
